Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Job Description

A Site Reliability Engineer is a combination of several disciplines. It is the job of someone familiar with both software engineering and systems engineering. A Site Reliability Engineer, also called an SRE, can build and run fault tolerant systems on a large scale and scale systems using different mechanisms such as automation. SREs work on whole lifecycle services engaging them and improving them. Sometimes they provide support services like developing software platforms before they go live or system design consulting for their company.

To be hired as a Site Reliability Engineer, a BS degree in Computer Science or another technical field that includes coding is typically required. Additional qualifications include knowledge of computer languages such as Go,C, C++, Peryl, Python and Ruby. SREs should also be able to debug and optimize code, analyze and troubleshoot systems and automate routine tasks.
