Overview

This is your opportunity to join our team of designers and software craftsmen and craftswomen. As a User Experience Designer, you will work with colleagues throughout The Container Store headquarters in Coppell to make The Container Store's software applications (web, mobile, kiosk, etc.) useful, usable, and easy to navigate for our customers. This is a broad role at The Container Store, with activities ranging from user research to interface design. Our environment is highly collaborative and involves working within a team of developers on one or more projects…for a homegrown Dallas company that has become an iconic American retailer. This role reports to our Creative Director, and your home base will be primarily on the Technology team.

Responsibilities

* Works on a development team which may include other technical professionals, subject matter experts, project stakeholders and executive leadership
* Interviews stakeholders and users to understand goals and preferences for software applications
* Designs application user experiences using methods such as wireframes, information architecture, prototypes, screen mockups and others
* Presents UX designs to stakeholders, users and development teams in formal and informal settings
* Creates user interface designs to guide software developers
* Maintains and manages digital brand consistency including but not limited to typography, interface design, colors and best practices
* Responsible for staying current with new UX developments and techniques
* Works with the Development Team throughout the application development to ensure that the application is true to the UX design as it progresses
* Test applications for usability, in partnership with stakeholders and users
* Works in our Agile/Scrum environment, participating in and contributing to the ceremonies and processes (daily stand-ups, code reviews, sprint retrospectives, etc.) that keep our process continually improving
* Attends and participates in development meetings

Qualifications

* College degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, digital information design, human factors, or similar; or other bachelor's degree with relevant work experience
* 4+ years academic or work experience in digital applications development
* Based in Dallas/Ft. Worth area
* Established competency with tools such as Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator and InVision
* Experience with User research and testing tools preferred
* Strong working knowledge of web front end technologies (e.g. HTML/CSS/JavaScript)
* Knowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels within and outside the organization
* Ability to quickly separate the mission-critical tasks from the lower priority tasks; focuses on the most value-added projects of the day or week
* Flexible, with a positive attitude and passion for knowledge
* Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once
