Hardware Engineers are highly sought after by many companies throughout the country. This rewarding career centers around researching, modifying, designing and testing computer systems and their components. Typically, these components include things such as memory, circuit boards, routers, video cards, CPUs and network cards. When a design has been created, Hardware Engineers will spend a lot of time testing the design. Because of this, one must be detail oriented and be an analytical thinker in order to succeed. At the same time, Hardware Engineers must update existing computer equipment and components to work with new software drivers.
Hardware Engineers need to have at least an undergraduate degree in an accredited computer engineering program to be considered for the position in most companies. However, some positions will also require a number of years worth of work experience or a master's degree as well. Hardware Engineers are also expected to have a strong working knowledge of industry-standard techniques and stay on top of emerging technology.
