Security Engineers serve as the front line of defense against cyber threats. They design, develop or install IT security solutions that help reduce a company’s vulnerability to hacks, intrusions or attacks. Part of their duties may include developing automation scripts, installing and configuring firewalls, evaluating new technology for security flaws and performing software/firmware upgrades. Security Engineers often work in full-time positions alongside system analysts and network administrators. With the increased reliance on data-storage and cloud-computing, the demand for network security has been on a rise. Projections by BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) estimate a 28 percent job growth for Information security analyst, including security engineers for decades to come.
