They're usually the first called when something goes awry with a desktop or laptop computer in a company's network. These specialists will provide assistance and support over the telephone to troubleshoot problems. They often prioritize the calls they receive to help keep operations running smoothly. Desktop Support Technicians may also be responsible for making sure that computers in a company's network are backed up and secure. They can set up domains, create user accounts and deploy security updates to various systems as needed. Besides providing support over the telephone, these specialists will answer email inquiries. They may also be required to show other employees within a company how to operate various computer programs and networks using security standards. Desktop Support Technicians can replace or repair defective hardware. They will resolve network connectivity and wireless access issues for computers, as well as mobile devices. These specialists have superb communication, customer service and problem solving skills.
