Buying your first home is a little like bringing your first child home from the hospital – sure, you’re excited, but you’re also pretty nervous!

This is how I felt after my wife and I bought our first home in 2010. I’ve never really been a “handy” person, and yet all of a sudden I was in charge of maintaining and repairing a brand new home – I was totally out of my league.

For instance, I knew I needed to regularly flush my water heater and change my HVAC filter, but I had no idea how to do it. I was new to the area, so I had no idea who to call when I needed our carpets cleaned or an appliance repaired.

I wanted to be a responsible homeowner – I just wished I had someone to guide me through the process.

We kept coming back to the fact that there was no full-service solution for the hassle and stress we continued to experience. We knew we couldn’t be the only ones, and so we created The Happy Home Company: someone to contact anytime, day or night, when you need help in your home; someone to strategize preventative and regular maintenance for your home; and someone to find trusted, reliable service providers that you’re comfortable having in your home.

We are a small, experienced team and everyone who works here has to be at the top of their game. The person we're looking for:

• has a sense of intellectual curiosity and desire to learn
• is self-driven, actively looks for ways to add value, and knows how to get things done
• values data and truth over ego
• has a strong sense of code craftsmanship, takes pride in the code they write
• sometimes spends more time on the unit tests than the actual application code
• has good verbal communication and reasoning skills, including the ability to make a business case for technology
• is not an asshole
