It all began one day in 2002,when Karrie asked Rob to give her some ideas on upgrading the ancient CRT projectors at work. Karrie was managing the onsite planetarium at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle and Rob had a software architecture background. He immediately wanted to know why the projection was still from an 8 foot long mechanical starball instead of being a digital projection. Finding that there were (incredibly expensive) solutions for permanent domes, they decided to focus on making the world's first affordable and portable digital planetarium system.
Through the fusion of practical market experience and technical capability, Digitalis has grown to be the largest digital planetarium manufacturer by volume, with it's best-selling Digitarium brand. Almost 800 systems have been shipped around the world, from portable to large fixed domes. We continue to add more content and features, helping expand the usefulness to topics outside of astronomy where immersion is important. We have a strong emphasis on usability and live interactive shows, so that educators can better engage with their audiences.
