Network Engineers are responsible for the design and development of computer networks. They are also tasked with maintaining network performance after it’s been developed. Other duties may include troubleshooting networks, managing networking equipment and integrating new technologies to improve network performance. Network engineers may work alone or alongside a team of IT specialists.
Network Engineers require good analytical skills to determine the best way to develop a network based on a company’s needs or resources. Most engineers typically have a minimum of an associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Network Engineers may also opt to enroll in networking degree programs or secure vendor-specific certifications like the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).
